A cancer treatment may soon be on the horizon, thanks to researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine. A newly-developed treatment, which was tested on mice, has the potential to obliterate tumors within 10 days.

Science Mag reports that by injecting an immune-stimulating mixture directly into tumors in mice, the animals’ immune system was boosted, thereby being able to destroy not only the injected tumors but other tumors in their body.

“This is a very important study,” said immunologist Keith Knutson of the Mayo Clinic, who was not part of the research. “It provides a good pretext for going into humans.”

So far, researchers have tried injecting various concoctions containing molecules and viruses into the tumors. The goal is always the same: boost the immune system. However, the results have been varied. And, nearly every candidate they’ve tested in humans hasn’t worked. That’s why medical oncologist Ron Levy of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, worked with colleagues to test the cancer-fighting capabilities of approximately 20 molecules — together. These include several types of antibodies that activate immune cells.

The researchers induced tumors in mice by inserting cancer cells just below the skin at two different locations on the abdomen. After tumors started to grow on both sides, the scientists injected the molecules — either alone or in combination — into one tumor in each mouse. The tumors were then regularly checked and their responses documented.

In the study, published in Science Translational Medicine, the team explained that a pair of molecules (a type of DNA fragment called CpG and an antibody against the immune cell protein (OX40) produced the best results. “On their own, they do almost nothing, but the combination is synergistic,” said Levy. When the two molecules were injected into mouse tumors, they disappeared in less than 10 days. Within 20 days, the non-injected tumors had also vanished.

The molecules have different functions. CpG stimulates dendritic cells which help instigate counter-attacks against cancerous cells. OX40 serves as a throttle of sorts for T-cells, another type of immune cell that battles tumors. The anti-OX40 antibodies charge up the T-cells. To test the mixture further, Levy and his team tested the approach in a mouse prone to breast tumors. Injecting the mixture into one tumor halted the growth of the second, as well as prevented any new breast tumors from growing.

Levy is hopeful the particular combination “will be very effective in patients.” He predicts it could work against a number of cancers. He also thinks it has the potential to eliminate metastases, the secondary tumors that result when cancer spreads.

The researchers are now tasked with determining whether or not the approach works in humans, as most rodent cancer therapies do not translate to humans. Levy and his colleagues have launched a clinical trial to evaluate the safety of their approach and to test its effectiveness in patients with lymphoma.

Do Your Dog’s Treats Contain These Low-Quality Ingredients?

Dog treats have come a long way over the years. We used to keep a box of those dry, bone-shaped biscuits in the cupboard to give to Fido every once and awhile. Today, trainers and dog owners agree that healthy and nutritious treats are an essential training tool that provides positive reinforcement for pups.
Don’t Be Fooled By Cheap Ingredients in Nice Packaging

Unfortunately, the extremely profitable pet industry features several brands oversaturating the market with cheap treats made with low-quality and potentially harmful ingredients. You can’t trust the brand packaging itself, as pet food companies use tricks to make their food appear better than it is. Their pretty packaging can be misleading, but the ingredient list offers a more truthful look at what’s actually in your dog’s food. Pick up any dog treat product at the store, and you will see a long list of ingredients– many of them you can’t even pronounce, let alone understand.

The Worst Ingredients in Dog Treats and Dog Food

Butylated Hydroxyanisole or BHA
Butylated Hydroxytoluene or BHT
Ethoxyquin
Food dyes including Blue 2, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and 4-MIE
Propylene Glycol or PG
Rendered fat
Corn and wheat gluten
Meat and grain meals and by-products

BHA and BHT are synthetic antioxidants that are possible carcinogens that may also interfere with hormone function. Long-term exposure to high doses of BHT is proven to be toxic in mice and rats. It can also cause liver, thyroid and kidney problems and can hurt lung function and blood coagulation.

Ethoxyquin is a fat preservative that is also used as a pesticide as well as in the process of making rubber (yuck!). Studies have found that it can cause liver damage, as well. Synthetic food dyes are entirely unnecessary and only contribute to the visual appeal of a product for humans– your dog couldn’t care less! They link to cancer, allergies, and hyperactivity. Propylene Glycol is a controversial form of mineral oil that may cause allergic reactions as well as skin, liver and kidney damage.

Corn and wheat gluten are both ingredients used as meat substitutes that are less nutritionally complete than real meat proteins. Manufacturers add them to dog foods and treat to make their products seem better than they are. Other ingredients including If you’re feeding your dogs products containing these ingredients, they may not be getting the nutrition they need. Furthermore, many dogs are gluten intolerant and can suffer from severe inflammation and allergic reactions when consumed.

Of all the ingredients listed above, rendered fat, and meat/grain meals or by-products probably sound the most familiar. The problem is there are little to no regulations when it comes to disclosing from which animals pet food manufacturers are sourcing their “rendered fat,” “meals,” and “by-products.” You may be feeding your beloved pets the remains of diseased cattle, tumor-ridden chickens, roadkill, zoo animals, and even euthanized dogs and cats from veterinarians and shelters. Rendered fat is also a source of harmful microorganisms, toxins, and can facilitate the growth of harmful bacteria and mold.
Other Bad Ingredients to Look Out For

Other ingredients to look out for include: white flour, monosodium glutamate (MSG), corn syrup, farmed salmon, xylitol, sugar alcohols, sodium nitrate, soy, sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), salt, vegetable oil, cellulose, brewers rice, corn, sodium hexametaphosphate, animal digest, pea protein, and artificial flavor.
The Preen Pets Difference

At Preen Pets, we only use simple whole ingredients like extra lean chicken breast, USDA extra lean beef, and sweet potatoes to create healthy, all-natural treats your dogs love. We never use ingredients you haven’t heard of. And certainly, none that could potentially harm your dog.

Our treats do not contain questionable ingredients. Many other treat companies use chemical preservatives, synthetic food dyes, and cheap sources of protein.

At Preen Pets, we see dogs as members of our family, so we only use ingredients we’d be comfortable consuming ourselves. We craft our treats here in the U.S.A. using all-natural farm-fresh ingredients that are hormone free and slow-oven baked to retain as much nutritional value as possible. We are so confident your dogs will love our treats, we offer a 100% money-back guarantee.

FL Shooting Survivor Colton Haab: CNN Told Me I Needed To “Stick To The Script”; Entire Town Hall Scripted

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor Colton Haab appeared on FOX News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight to talk about his saga with CNN and how they “scripted” a question for him to use at Wednesday night’s town hall event hosted by the network and moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Haab, a JROTC member who helped shepherd students to safety, was approached by the network to ask a question at the town hall. Haab showed CNN what he wanted to say but said Carrie Stevenson, an executive producer at CNN, ultimately rejected it and instead after several conversations “scripted” a question for him.

“CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted,” Haab said to a local news outlet Wednesday night.

“Before we get into anything. I just want to make sure that everybody hasn’t forgotten why we are actually here tonight. I mean, we lost 17 lives last week. I actually physically put two to rest. To me, that was the hardest thing in the world to endure. Nobody should have to go through this. As long as we are taking the right steps to move forward from this and make sure this doesn’t happen again, I’m all for that,” Haab said on the Thursday broadcast of FOX News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight.

“We certainly haven’t forgotten. Thank you for reminding us yet again. And we think that the only way to make the country better and maybe put a dent in this scourge is to have a rational, thoughtful conversation about what to do next. And with that in mind, you were planning to go to this event last night and tell me if I am mischaracterizing any of this and you said at the request of a CNN producer you sent in a number of questions, — statements, questions you wanted to ask of the politicians on the stage and they rewrote one of your questions? Is that right?” Carlson asked.

Haab told Carlson he wanted to go “speak [his] part” and “open eyes” to a few things he thought could make the situation better. Haab said the network was dishonest and that is why he decided not to attend. He also said he was directed to “stick to the script.”

“She had actually said that over the phone that I needed to stick to the script,” Haab said of the CNN producer.

Haab said he believed all the questions asked at the town hall were scripted. Haab explained in detail what happened between him and the cable news network and what he thought of the town hall.

COLTON HAAB: So what had happened was four days ago I had gotten contacted by a lady named [State of the Union executive producer] Carrie Stevenson from CNN. She had asked me originally to just write a speech. It was going to be at the town hall at the BB&T Center [in Sunrise, Florida]. So I agreed. I felt like it would be the right thing to do. Be able to go speak my part as well as open eyes to a few things that I thought that can make this situation a little better. From there, three days ago, so the next day after that I had gotten an email back from her and she asked for more of questions rather than a speech. Which I was totally fine with so I wrote a little less of a speech and more of questions that I wanted to ask at the town hall. The day after that it was more of just questions. She asked for just questions that I would like to ask.

So, I gave her my questions and then yesterday, at about 5:15, I made contact with her. And she had asked if I had just asked her one question. So what they had actually done was wrote out a question for me because in my interview with CNN, I had talked about arming the teachers, if they were willing to arm themselves in the school to carry on campus. And they had — she had taken that of what I had briefed on and actually wrote that question out for me. So I have that question here if you would like me to ask it for you.

“I just want to make sure I have this straight. So you sent them a long, in effect essay on what you thought but they put their own words in the question and they weren’t the same as the words you had sent in? They were the producer’s words?” Carlson asked.

“Absolutely,” Haab answered. “They had taken what I had wrote and what I had briefed on and talked about and they actually wrote the question for me.”

“But not with your — they put their own words into their question, even after they asked to you send in questions,” Carlson responded.

“Absolutely,” Haab said.

“But that seems dishonest,” Carlson reacted.

“It definitely did,” Haab agreed. “That’s kind of why I didn’t go last night. Originally I had thought that it was going to be more of my own question and my own say and then it turned out to be more of just a script. And she had actually said that over the phone that I needed to stick to the script.”

Haab said watched some of the CNN town hall but turned it off because he “knew” it was going to be “scripted.”

“I watched a little bit of it. I kind of felt like I didn’t really need to because I knew as soon as what had happened with me that it was going to be more scripted and wasn’t actually going to be actual questions. Then I didn’t feel the need to fully watch it,” he told Carlson.

“So if CNN was willing to re-word your question, put their own words in your mouth, and as you said you didn’t want to go along with that, do you think they did that to other people last night?” Carlson asked.

“Absolutely, from what I did see, I seen a couple people that had asked questions before I did leave my house. And it was a little piece of paper cut out. And I know for a fact that nobody cut their own paper out and wrote their own question. Especially when they were all based off the same topic. So, to me, it from right there it showed this isn’t correct. Why do they all have the same size piece of paper with a short little question on it? So, to me it was a total waste of my time, honestly,” Haab said.

“You’re not just some person off the street,” Carlson said. “You’re a survivor of this shooting and the point was the listen to you — to the survivors of the shooting.”

“Were you surprised by the way they behaved?” Carlson asked about CNN.

“I mean, honestly, it was very shocking to me because we just went through such a horrific tragedy. For them to take that and now make such a big newscast over what they want to hear, it was very upsetting to me,” Haab answered.

“It’s shocking to us too, trust me, in the actual journalism business,” Carlson responded.

The email documentation beteween Haab and CNN is here:
https://www.scribd.com/document/372251755/attachment-1-3-docx

CNN denied Haab’s accusation that they gave him a scripted question. According to a CNN insider Haab wanted to give an extensive speech and not just ask a question, something the network said the forum was not designed for. When the family was told this they decided to pull out of the event. The CNNer also noted the subject Haab wanted to address, arming teachers, was discussed at length in the 2-hour long town hall.

Here is CNN’s official statement:

There is absolutely no truth to this. CNN did not provide or script questions for anyone in last night’s town hall, nor have we ever. After seeing an interview with Colton Haab, we invited him to participate in our town hall along with other students and administrators from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Colton’s father withdrew his name from participation before the forum began, which we regretted but respected. We welcome Colton to join us on CNN today to discuss his views on school safety.

Tim Schmidt – USCCA Founder on the Wednesday Florida School Shooting, Makes a Lot of Sense

The FBI is at fault on this one. They say this kid had been calling himself “school shooter” for a year. The FBI had been alerted about this kid a year ago, and numerous times since then.
Those in position know, that autistic people can become violent, and they also know that the medication this kid was on, could cause the very behavior that was displayed on Wednesday.
Thing that mainstream media is not talking about also, is that there was more than one shooter. So where is the other one?
Another excuse to take our firearms from us.

The following was emailed to me from USCCA:

“Why Would Anyone Do Something So Terrible?”
BY TIM SCHMIDT – USCCA FOUNDER
Tim Schmidt
It’s happened again. Tragedy. Heartbreak. Once again, precious human lives have been victimized and cut short by evil circumstances beyond their control.

Preliminary reports indicate that former student Nikolas Cruz, 19, opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Wednesday, killing 17 people and wounding 14 more.

We don’t (and probably never will) know all the details of what happened inside those walls, but that doesn’t stop us from asking why anyone would do something so terrible.

In fact, in the aftermath of a tragedy such as this, that desire to know why is what sometimes pushes people to thoughtlessly say things that perhaps they wouldn’t normally say.

You see, when we don’t have all the answers, the easiest thing in the world to do is to point fingers:

“This kid obviously had unfettered access to guns and that’s what prompted this whole thing.”

“There is no reason that any person should be able to own a gun like that.”

And perhaps the most common of all:

“We need to just get rid of all guns so this sort of thing can’t happen again.”

But there’s a big problem with those statements: They all shift the blame to something other than the individual responsible for carrying out such atrocities.

People like you and I already know and acknowledge that these tragic events are intentional acts committed by men and women who don’t care at all for precious human life. We hold the perpetrators of these acts accountable, focusing on the things that drove them to such evil instead of the tools they used to carry out their crimes.

Because we have already been enlightened by the truth, I believe that we, responsibly armed Americans, have a duty — especially in the face of events such as these — to respond to inaccurate and cruel statements about guns, concealed carry, the 2nd Amendment or anything else about which we’re knowledgeable and which can direct this important conversation in a truthful way.

We must never allow our emotions to override logic. We must never be cruel. We must respond, as best we can, with the facts.

And we must not — we cannot! — live our lives in fear.

We must transform our fear — our disgust and anger and sadness — into action. Into preparedness.

We must also demand an answer to another really important question:

When will we be allowed to defend our most precious resources?

Students and teachers — in elementary schools all the way up to colleges — have been taught to “lock down.” To hide in closets and behind desks. To wait as seconds turn to minutes (and what must seem like forever) for help to arrive.

Concealed Carry Magazine Executive Editor Kevin Michalowski wrote something about Aaron Feis, the brave football coach at Parkland High School who stepped in front of students when the bullets started flying, that really hit home:

“All he could do was use his body as a shield. Image what he could have done if he was allowed to shoot back at the killer.”

Let’s get rid of gun-free zones. Let’s start arming and training our willing teachers.

It’s time we stopped allowing our legislators to decide how much human lives — especially our children’s — are worth. The answer is simple. They’re worth everything.

Take Care and Stay Safe,

Tim Schmidt
