Leftists Said Maine’s Permitless Carry Law Would Cause Chaos. Now It’s the Safest State in US

Reducing crime is an admirable goal of lawmakers and society at large. Honestly, it’s starting to become the only vision for America’s future that the left and right share.

Unfortunately, the agreement ends there.

While the left prefers to reduce crime by pretending it doesn’t exist or by attacking constitutional rights, the right wants to get out of the way and empower citizens to protect themselves and others.

One of the most promising examples of this is the situation in Maine, which was recently named the safest state in the union by U.S. News and World Report.

This comes nearly a full four years after Maine enacted a “Constitutional Carry” law, which allowed residents to carry a concealed firearm without the need for a special permit. It sounds scary, doesn’t it?

Of course not, but that didn’t stop the left from freaking out about it.

According to a blog post on the American Thinker, one opponent of the bill in the state legislature said it would give citizens a reason to be afraid every time they went out in public. It’s unclear how he came to this conclusion.

Another state representative misrepresented the law when he suggested that it would lead to violent criminals legally carrying guns. This is untrue, as the law only applies to those who can legally purchase a firearm in the first place.

Well, four years later, we can tell them they were wrong.

This just goes to show that permissive gun laws do not necessarily correlate with higher crime. Crime has nothing to do with the tool that it is committed with but by the hearts of the people that commit it.

A quick look at U.S. News’ list and each state’s concealed carry laws demonstrates this perfectly.

Maine has permissive gun laws and ranks first on the list of low violent crime rate; Vermont and Idaho also have unrestricted concealed carry laws and are second and fifth on the list, respectively. Other states, such as Alaska and Arkansas, have similar gun laws but fall near the bottom of the list.

Mississippi, North Dakota and Montana are some permissive gun law states that rank in the middle.

On the other hand, there are restrictive states all over the list as well. New Jersey is U.S. News’ fourth safest state despite having some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. Hawaii and Maryland are near the middle, while Washington comes in at the back half.

What does this mean? It means that crime is a people problem, not a gun problem. Despite tough laws, criminals can still obtain guns, and allowing citizens to protect themselves does not make our communities any more dangerous.

All across the country, there are people with little intent to follow the law, and changing the laws around them does not make them more inclined to do so.

Instead, it creates a nation of sitting ducks over-reliant on a government that couldn’t give a second thought about them, up to the point of real oppression.

Lord willing, we’ll never come to that.

While Fox News grew its audience last week, CNN and MSNBC saw their audience flee by double digits.
Compared to this same week last year, the Fox News primetime audience grew by four percent, while MSNBC lost 15 percent of its audience, and the far-left CNN collapsed by a whopping 21 percent.

In total day viewers, Fox News grew by one percent, while MSNBC lost 15 percent of its viewers and CNNLOL lost a quarter of its viewers — a quarter! — a full 25 percent.
Here is the primetime total viewers breakdown for the week of July 15…
FOX: 2.55 million
MSNBC: 1.66 million
CNNLOL: 873,000

Fox News is not only attracting more primetime viewers than MSNBC and CNNLOL combined, even though Fox is already number one and appears to have no place to go but down, but is still growing its audience.

Meanwhile, CNNLOL, which has nowhere to go but up, still manages to go down. This fake news outlet is determined to prove there is a viewer number lower than zero.

CNNLOL, which has been in far-last place for years and has still lost viewers for years, is a five-alarm disaster, an unreliable conspiracy theory outlet that takes enormous pride in sinking its own ship — you know, if that’s what it takes to continue to deceive the public and encourage political violence.

Sidney Lumet’s classic movie Network (1976) revolves around a last-place network that brushes aside things like ethics, truth, morality, and decency as a means to increase its audience. No one could have ever imagined a news outlet like CNNLOL would someday come along and do the same even as its ratings hit all new lows week after week after week…

I’m starting to believe CNN chief Jeff Zucker is a brilliant right-wing plant hired by the late Roger Ailes to destroy CNNLOL in the most humiliating and permanent way imaginable.

As far as MSNBC, that network’s fall can be solely attributed to one thing: the debunking of the media’s Russia Collusion Hoax, which MSNBC, and most especially Russia Hoax Queen Rachel Maddow, went all-in on.

Once the Mueller Report proved there was no collusion and no obstruction, a whole lot of leftists felt betrayed and demoralized by a network that promised and promised and promised that Drumpf’s impeachment and arrest were right around the corner.

Here is the total day total viewers breakdown…
FOX: 1.385 million
MSNBC: 921,000
CNNLOL: 575,000

In primetime and in total day and in all of cable TV, Fox and MSNBC rank number one and two, respectively.

CNNLOL, however, was 11th in primetime and 7th in total day.

Things are so bad at CNN that a Discovery Channel spin-off network, Investigative Discovery, is attracting more primetime viewers.

In the all-important 25-54 age demo that sets advertising rates, everyone was down, but once again, MSNBC and CNNLOL were way, way down.

During primetime, Fox News slipped 11 percent, but MSNBC is down 33 percent, while CNN bottomed out with a 38 percent drop.

In total day, Fox again slipped just 11 percent, while MSNBC lot 37 percent of demo viewers and CNNLOL lost an incredible 42 percent.

Poor MSNBC… For a while, the openly left-wing outlet (that’s a compliment) was right on the heels of Fox News. Rachel Maddow and Sean Hannity were slugging it out for first place. But MSNBC, and Maddow, most especially, went way too far in gambling for a Big Win with the Mueller Report (which proved there was no collusion or obstruction).

Now MSNBC is a distant second place to Fox and Maddow is fighting for fourth place behind Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and Laura Ingraham.

The ratings collapse at CNN and MSNBC at least proves one thing: even Trump-hating leftists hate to be lied to and deceived.

Six hundred and seventy ballots were cast in a Georgia precinct with 276 registered voters in the state’s primary election, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.

A northeastern Georgia precinct located in Habersham County had 276 registered voters before the state’s primary elections at the end of May, but 670 votes were recorded—indicating that 276 percent of voters turned out in Georgia’s primary election, McClatchy reported.

The recently publicized voting irregularities come as the state investigated other instances of voter fraud—including one where an Atlanta City Hall staffer claimed she had to “print and deliver 500 blank absentee ballots” to an advocacy group staffer and pick up additional ballots from the Atlanta mayor’s campaign office to drop them off at an office in Fulton County.

Delaware Supreme Court Sums Up Entire Gun Debate In Ruling

Delaware Supreme Court Sums Up Entire Gun Debate In Ruling

It’s not often that a court captures a debate perfectly in a sentence or two. After all, most debates are complex things that require layers of discussion.

However, the Delaware State Supreme Court just lowered the boom on restrictions that kept lawfully owned and carried firearms out of state parks. In the process, they summed up what we’ve been saying for years regarding firearms and gun control laws.

The Superior Court earlier upheld the ban based on the “important governmental objective of keeping the public safe from the potential harm of firearms in state parks and forests,” The Court did not believe the regulations violated any constitutional rights.

“But that conclusion is based on the questionable notion — unsupported by reference to any evidence – that outlawing possession of firearms in an area makes law-abiding citizens safer because criminals will, for some reason, obey the regulations,” the Supreme Court majority found.

This is it in a nutshell. That’s what we keep telling gun control zealots over and over, and they still persist in pretending that somehow gun laws will somehow keep criminals from using firearms.

It won’t. We know this because of what transpires in places like New York City, where just this past weekend there was a gunfight between groups of men. No police involvement, just bad guys.

The criminals do not follow the rules, so as a result, gun laws only impact the law-abiding.

Some have argued that this line of reasoning could also be applied to any crime as only the criminals break those laws as well, which is sort of true. The difference is that guns allow the law-abiding to protect themselves. Laws against murder protect me. Laws against guns make me far more likely to be a victim.

That’s the fundamental truth that led the Delaware Supreme Court to their ruling.

At no point will rules forbidding the carrying of firearms actually make anyone safer. The idea that they will betrays a fundamental ignorance in the gun grabbers’ line of thinking. They don’t and they never will.

It’s part of why so many Second Amendment advocates refuse to visit establishments where their firearms aren’t welcome. They know that if they comply with that rule, they may well be the only one who complies with it. The violent felon with anger management issues won’t care. He’ll ignore the law and we all know it.

That leaves me and mine disarmed except for the magical thinking of people who believe these rules actually accomplish anything.

For residents of Delaware, it seems clear that their supreme court has their back. It seems their court understands that rules only inhibit the lawful and does nothing to the criminal except, at best, add another charge they can have leveled against them. If that’s the goal, so be it, but don’t pretend it’s a safety issue.

Rules like that make Americans less safe, and we all know it. If only the gun grabbers would learn that lesson rather than pontificating endlessly on just how superior they are simply because they want to disarm the average American.

WND.com: Peterson, an African-American civil-rights leader, talk radio host and WND columnist, believes the media has been stoking the fires of black-on-white racial hatred.

‘MEDIA OWN’ TV-STATION SHOOTING TRAGEDY
Reporting ‘stoked a sense of grievance among black Americans’

Black leader, author and commentator Jesse Lee Peterson is charging the mainstream media bears partial responsibility for the charged circumstances that allowed the on-air murder of a television reporter and her cameraman in Virginia this week. Peterson, an African-American civil-rights leader, talk radio host and WND columnist, believes the media has been stoking the fires of black-on-white racial hatred.

Pointing to the media’s coverage of the recent church shootings in Charleston, South Carolina, Peterson argued the press is creating an uncontrollable sense of anger among many blacks.

“To understand how lethal this anger can be, it might pay to look at the phenomenon of the black mass murderer,” Peterson told WND. “You say, what? Black mass murderer? If you are like a lot of people, you think mass murder is a white thing. The media encourage you to do so. This is a riff you hear occasionally from black comics as well, but the perception results from the way the media treat black serial killers, not from the reality on the ground.”

Peterson, the author of the new book “The Antidote,” suggests himself that blacks turn away from anger and toward self-reliance and stronger moral values. However, he warns the media is deliberately steering blacks away from such actions and is instead providing the motivation for violent attacks on whites. He also alleges there is a double standard in how the media report racial violence and in how it ascribes political significance to certain crimes. He points to the two different narratives created for this week’s on-air murders and the recent massacre of black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina.

In the killings on Wednesday, Vester Lee Flanagan, who worked under the professional name Bryce Williams, shot his co-workers to death during a live broadcast. He reportedly claimed his actions were revenge for the killings in Charleston and hoped he was going to start a “race war.” A “gay” rainbow flag was also found in the killer’s apartment.

After the shootings in Charleston, private businesses and local governments took down Confederate flags when photos circulated with alleged killer Dylan Roof posing with it. Several media outlets also charged white America was collectively responsible for the violence, with Chauncey Devega of Salon writing “white America must answer for” the killings. Barack Obama also spoke at the funeral of the pastor. However, thus far there has been no large scale effort to take down “gay” rainbow flags nor an effort to urge black Americans to take collective responsibility.

Several conservative commentators, including Dinesh D’Souza, have charged Barack Obama with hypocrisy for not speaking out against the crime as an act driven by hate.

Instead of pinning the blame on cultural, moral or racial problems, the father of slain reporter Alison Parker called for additional gun control in the wake of the tragedy.

But Peterson suggests the cause is far deeper. “An all-but-untold story is how black anger has been finding an outlet in unhinged acts of violence. Inevitably these killers blame white people for their rage. True to form, the media refuse to examine the deeper reasons for their rage, if they bother to discuss these crimes at all,” he said.

Peterson is not alone in charging the press with partial responsibility.

Jack Cashill, a WND columnist and the author of “Scarlet Letters: The Ever Increasing Intolerance of the Cult of Liberalism,” went even farther than Peterson.

“The media own this tragedy,” Cashill stated bluntly. “For years, they have suppressed the ample news of black on white crime, trumpeted the rare news of white and black crime, and stoked a sense of grievance among black Americans.”

Cashill believes this week’s killing was only the latest in a long line of murders driven by racist hatred against white people.

“Vester Lee Flanagan is not the first black grievance-killer, and he will not be the last. In the last few years alone there has been Omar Thornton in Connecticut, Christopher Dorner in California, Aaron Alexis in Washington, D.C., Ismaaiyl Brinsely in Brooklyn, and more. Among them they accounted for close to 30 deaths, and none of the victims was black. “Yes, they used guns. Yes, they were all mentally unstable. But the common denominator was their media-inspired sense of grievance against the white man.”

Colin Flaherty, a reporter who has written extensively on racially motivated crimes against whites and the author of “White Girl Bleed A Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore It,” agrees “it is absolutely fair to say the mainstream media enabled the black racial hostility that contributed to these murders.”

But Flaherty suggests the problem goes far deeper than simple media bias. He alleges nothing less than a widespread attitude of hatred against whites being pushed by a host of institutions.

“The reporters and editors are not the only guilty parties,” said Flaherty. “Black on white racial animosity is now mainstream and easy to find in churches, schools, homes, music and black websites. And liberal white websites too. Many people now think this attitude is normal. It is not.

“I expect to see more black racial resentment taught in schools, found in school books, preached from black churches, found in black music, and revered in black homes. That is growing — and it is already widespread.”

Flaherty predicts many media outlets will simply explain away black-on-white crimes as “random” or call it “workplace violence.” He cites a recent segment on Fox News in which Gretchen Carlson questioned a guest who maintained the crime was not about race. Flaherty asked rhetorically, “So if this is happening on Fox News, what do you suppose the rest of the clowns in the other media outlets were doing?”

Flaherty says much of the media have already settled on what narrative to push. “It was all about guns and workplace violence and not about race.”

Peterson, who works with African-American men with his nonprofit Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), says the ultimate solution to racial tension is for people to turn away from anger lest they let it cloud their moral judgment. Peterson cited the killer’s deeply held sense of victimhood and persecution as an example of how he believes anger can destroy a person. On his radio show, Peterson told his audience: “[Satan] presents things to your imagination, and if you have anger, you lock into it, and that’s it for you. And there’s nothing anyone can do to convince you that you’re wrong.”

Peterson urged his listeners not to give in to the anger he believes is being promoted. He counseled: “You got to let that anger go. Anyone who tells you that anger is good, that anger is power, that you need anger to motivate you, or that you can control anger, is lying to you. It’s a spirit that will destroy you. It retards you mentally and emotionally. There’s no truth in it. There’s no love in it. There’s nothing but blame and destruction.”
